The Grand Canal is the main ‘street’ of Venice. This otherworldly waterway is lined with once grand mansions or ‘palazzi’, that were home to the wealthy families of Venice, they had highly decorated exteriors with colorful paintings and mosaics. These days, the palazzi have faded but many still have the ornate facades revealing Eastern styles and influence, a by-product of the merchant trading that made Venice rich.
Hear the history, stories and scandals behind the ancient palaces and churches that line the route and take in famous sights including the Rialto Bridge, Ca D’oro and the church of Santa Maria Della Salute.
