Umbria Tours

Sabina is a PDO (Product Designation of Origin) applying to olive oil produced in the Sabina region of Italy, once inhabited by the ancient Sabine tribe, and famous for its prize-winning extra virgin olive oils whose premiere quality are owed to the region’s specific climate and soil. With the exception of a few necessary technological innovations, Sabina extra virgin olive oil has been produced the same way since pre-Roman times.
Our first stop, about 2 hours from Rome, will be the famous art town Spoleto in Umbria, home of a festival which happens every year. This 'Festival of Two Worlds' is definitely one of Italy's summer highlights bringing together the best creative artists in Europe and America. From the 12th Century Romanesque cathedral (Santa Maria Assunta) boasting Fillipo Lippi frescoes to the Teatro Romano an ancient theater dating back 2000 years you will have plenty to see during your 2 hours of free time to explore Spoleto on your own. The 14th century Rocca Albornoz is impressive as is the 264 feet tall and 760 feet long bridge/aqueduct which supplied access and water to the Rocca. There is also a beautiful disused ancient Roman bridge and a sacred wood where chopping down the trees was outlawed in the 3rd century BC and where you can still feel the magic.

Next, we travel South on the way back to Rome through the breathtaking Italian countryside to the village of Poggio San Lorenzo, built upon an ancient Roman estate dating back to 100 AD. You’ll learn all about olives and the artisan craft of olive oil production, while exploring ancient olive groves, the ruins of the Capofarfa castle, and the charming historic center of Poggio San Lorenzo, and of course, enjoying some of Italy’s finest extra virgin olive oil. Lunch at the family-owned Agamennone olive oil mill is included and will be comprised of authentic local delights that are sure to please the most discerning palate. You will have the opportunity to buy olive oil directly from the producer and they can even ship it anywhere in the world so that you won’t go over your weight limit at the airport. Join us for this unforgettable adventure in taste and culture.
